The Britannia Mine Museum (formerly the BC Museum of Mining), carved into the landscape of its namesake town, just north of Vancouver along the region's famed Sea to Sky corridor, offers a unique and interactive glimpse into an industry that helped shape our province.

And thanks to a $14.7-million refurbishment which wrapped late August, what was old suddenly seems new again. Drop by the new Beaty Lundin Visitor Centre, complete with a theatre, mineral exhibits and interactive entertainment; stroll the boardwalk and take a peek at the community of restored historic buildings, the oldest dating back to 1905; and dive in, hands first, with the interactive exhibits, demonstrating techniques reminiscent of BC's early settlers (gold panning, anyone?). Refurbishments to the museum entice - and educate – while a new mineral gallery and gift shop are sure to dazzle. These new additions join old favourites, including an underground mine train, machine shop and the 26-storey landmark Mill Building (a National Historic Site). Established in 1971, this museum is more than a narrative of the province's mining past. Indeed, it is a celebration of our present, and a glimpse into our future. www.bcmm.ca
